The Journal Editorial Board is comprised of current graduate students in the CSU Student Affairs in Higher Education program. The positions are volunteer and board members are selected through an application process.

Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on August 22, 2011 for consideration of open positions. Applicants must complete the following for consideration:

Complete editing on a provided writing sample (included within application) using APA standards and practices

Editor – Content: Mallory Perkins

Co-facilitates Editorial Board Meetings

Create minutes and agendas for all Editorial Board meetings as assigned

Maintains communication with the Advisors to the Journal Board

Attends all Editorial Board Meetings and trainings

Provides leadership and direction for the Editorial Board

Reads all articles and consults with the Editorial Board about the quality and subject matter of the articles being considered for submission

Works with Editorial Board to encourage submission of articles from various higher education institutions, Student Affairs graduate programs, and professional associations both nationally and internationally

Encourages prospective authors to submit articles around the seven areas of emphases

Manufactures a transition report and meets with the succeeding Content Editor to transition responsibilities
Content Components

Oversees the overall content of the Journal of Student Affairs
-
Reviews the last two editions of the Journal of Student Affairs for themes and topics in order to purposefully solicit articles on topics that may not have appeared in previous editions

Writes “Editors’ Comments” page with input from the Editorial Board
-
Ensures that the comments provided by the Reader Board members are constructive and appropriate
-
Works with Associate Editor – Content to ensure comments related to content are taken into account in the Journal compilation process

Technical Components

Oversees the technical merit and quality of the Journal of Student Affairs
-
Utilizes knowledge of the APA manual for editing techniques
-
Assists the Reader Board with technical knowledge including the length, style, and grammatical expectations of articles
-
Ensures that the comments provided by the Reader Board members are constructive and appropriate
-
Facilitates discussion of final decision making process of which articles will be published
-
Works with Associate Editor – Technical and advisors to make sure overall comments are compiled and final edits completed
-
Oversees Production Weekend and the completion and printing of the Journal of Student Affairs
-
Writes “Acknowledgements” page with input from the Editorial Board
-
Makes arrangements with the printer at least one month prior to Production Weekend and confirms turnaround time of final product

Responsible for all communication with authors

Keeps accurate records of all materials, including correspondence, expenditures, and other communication

Books rooms for Editorial Board meetings

Maintains contact with the Editorial Board regarding the author submission and edits timeline

Distributes articles to Reader Board in conjunction with Managing Editor – Training & Development

Works with the SAHE administrative assistant and Alumni Association for the use of the SAHE alumni database
-
Arranges payment of printing costs, training costs, and all financial matters
-
Updates SAHE Program Director of any pertinent changes to the Journal of Student Affairs
-
Works with Web Designer to design, update and manage the Journal of Student Affairs website, which includes updating positions, names, articles, deadlines, guidelines, and maintaining a sophisticated website

Coordinates Editorial Board application process

Maintains communication with the Program Director of the SAHE program
-
Solicits “State of the Program” page from the Program Director of the SAHE program well in advance of Production Weekend

Sends hard copies of the Journal to those requested

Creates and maintains a database of contacts of various Student Affairs graduate students, professionals, institutions and associations

Creates and distributes the press release announcing the pending publication and release date of the Journal

Creates and distributes the invitation, encouraging article authors, CSU faculty and staff, CSU SAHE alumni, and current CSU SAHE students to attend the Journal Release Party
